Kunds, the sacred water bodies of India, have always been more than mere reservoirs—they are integral to the cultural and spiritual fabric of our communities. Serving as interactive community hubs, these spaces blend mythological significance with everyday life, providing a backdrop for religious rituals, social gatherings, and community exchanges. Their surroundings and context shape the range of activities they support, making them invaluable as living spaces that reflect and sustain India's diverse cultural heritage.
The project focuses on the rejuvenation of three key Kunds in Ayodhya—Ganesh Kund, Hanuman Kund, and Swarnkhani Kund—while acknowledging the broader network of approximately 140 Kunds scattered across the city and linked to temple complexes. The project looks at the horizontal l layers—hydrology and ecology—and vertical layers of context and gives measures for rejuvenation. Through these studies, it aims to enhance the ecological health and cultural significance of these Kunds, revitalizing them as vibrant spiritual and community hubs.
