Ram Katha Park
Socio-Cultural
Location: Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh
Status: Completed
Extension of the Park and Open Air Theatre was proposed with an increased capacity of 4500 people that acts as a venue for holding cultural, religious and spiritual functions. Focus was laid on transforming the park into an inclusive experiential space and retaining the existing cultural and heritage values associated with the park.
The major challenge with the Park’s extension was to transform the park into a more socially inclusive experiential space retaining its existing cultural and heritage identity. The material vocabulary was inspired from the existing to seamlessly merge the old with new. The jaali patterns were evolved from the strong context that the site depicted. Multifunctional landscapes created at intermediate levels always remain alive with public discourses, religious activities and also act as recreational and community learning space.
The proposed curved wall cognitively encloses the OAT and acts as a backdrop for the entire park. The traditionally inspired perforations help visually connects the holy Saryu that flows at the back of the park and imparts a sense of spirituality to the viewer.
